Jeremy Zawodny on The Tipping Point for OpenID: I mean that all it takes now is for one “big player” to jump on the OpenID bandwagon. OpenID will then either take off or fall flat on its face. I believe it’ll succeed… in a similiar way Jabber has succeeded. A good, solid, open system with an active developer community, but not shiny enough to appeal to the masses. Personally, I hope that it’ll fare better.
Windy. Outside a storm is brewing that is assumed to end all life in Germany. Everywhere. We’re all going to die! Is Jesus coming back, bringing his lawyers? No idea. I just hope we’ll still have a roof in the morning. New keyboard. Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, excellent even on a Mac, thanks to the surprisingly flexible IntelliType software. I love Apple hardware, but the glaring lack of an ergonomic keyboard is nothing short of a shame.
‘Take a leap into hyperspace’ is an interesting article about the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics awarding the title “Liquid Propulsion Best Paper” to a team of scientists around Jochem Häuser (Germany) and Walter Dröscher (Austria), who published a paper called “Guidelines for a Space Propulsion Device Based on Heim’s Quantum Theory”, which deals with (hold on to your pants) dimension drives. Well, hyper drives. Well, not even that, but apparently the serious possibility of moving shit around really fast by manipulating forces in eight dimensions.

Die sich daraus ergebende Ironie, daß er das Blatt noch schlaftrunkenden Menschen auf dem Weg in die Arbeit ins Gesicht hält, scheint ihm nicht aufzufallen.
The aforementioned tech article is available now on YUIblog.com! It’s explaining a way to use the excellent YUI library in Greasemonkey scripts. I’m sure that this approach is neither the perfect nor the only solution to achieving YUI/Greasemonkey integration, but it works for me and I thought sharing can’t hurt. I am planning to write a more or less full rundown of the year past for a few weeks by now, and I finally faced the fact that it won’t happen anytime soon—i.e. probably never. So I’ve decided to simply jot down some corner stones of a year that was strange, cool, tiresome and good to me. Proudest overall moment: Standin on ~80m2 of laminate flooring after installing it. I did it all by myself within 2 full days; yes, you can see it, it’s not perfect, but I installed it with my own hands.
Ich bin schwach. Hendrik erzählte mir interessante Sachen über den neuen WoW 2.0-Patch, und eh ichs mich versehe, habe ich den Patch runtergeladen, installiert, und meinen Account reaktiviert. Super, ganz toll. Ich bin so schwach. Ich hab zwei (für mich) ganz neue Ansätze ausprobiert: Untot & Magus. Dummerweise hab ich jetzt wieder Spaß, allerdings hab ich auch noch nicht so lang gespielt. Wenigstens hab ich Urlaub; eine gute Ausrede. Danke, Hendrik.
When Jon Stewart mentioned “Hanukkah Harry” the other day during an episode of The Daily Show, I thought he had made that name up there on the spot. Or at least made it up as a joke for that particular show. Turns out I was wrong. Hanukkah Harry actually has his own story and everything. And it’s so much better than Santa’s. Oy, presents!
A few weeks ago I was minding my own business at work, writing a Greasemonkey script to solve a problem I had, when I noticed that apparently I had found the solution for a GM problem that not only I had but a number of other people as well. So, I tinkered and tinkered and tinkered some more and discovered that I had managed to write something fairly wicked that I had never seen before.
A dirty, dirty, dirty keyboard can be cleaned thoroughly easily, it doesn’t necessarily have to be thrown away—you can reuse it! Here’s how. Unplug the keyboard. Then disassemble it, usually that means taking out the screws in the back and ending up with one plastic board holding all the keys and the (more or less) fancy casing. If the cable can be detached, even better. Now, take the key board and the casing and put it in a dishwasher.
Gots me one of them Wiis the other day. Got Monkeyball and Rayman, but always ended up playing Wii Sports with Dana for hours so far—mostly Bowling and Golf. It’s surprisingly, insanely fun. Really well done. The fact that she likes the Bowling game so much alone was well worth the price. I am sporadically online, if you want my Wii code, drop me a line, you know how to reach me.
Heute Deutschlandstart vom Nintendo Wii. Geh gleich los, Holger und ich fahren zum Saturn an der Theresienhöhe und warten vor der Tür. Hendrik wird dann kurz vor 10:00 Uhr zu uns stoßen. Er wird also nicht von Anfang an bei uns sein, was aber nachvollziehbar ist—wer will schon seinen 30. Geburtstag vor einem Saturn beginnen? Sind wir meschugge? Möglich. Werden wir uns die Kronjuwelen abfrieren beim Warten? Vielleicht. Werden wir Spaß haben?
…ist raus. Exzellentes Addon für Firefox, das jedem ans Herz gelegt sei, der Webseiten entwickelt oder Javascript schreibt. Persönliches neues Lieblingsfeature nach zwei Stunden seit Installation: das Network Monitoring—sehr praktisch! Das war mir doch auch gleich eine Spende an Joe Hewitt, den Entwickler, wert. Die hat er sich mittlerweile redlich verdient. :)

It’s all around a great show so far, from story (great) to writing (great) to acting (great) to everything else (great). ![Heroes: Mohinder][https://attic.czm.io/blog-assets/2006/12/hro_1001_057.jpg] Somewhere, I read something about the show along the lines “X-Men, before they became X-Men”. And actually, it’s not far from the truth. The story (or stories) are those of ordinary people today who discover they can do extraordinary things; they are the next steps in human evolution.
Heute auf dem Heimweg traf ich an der Bushaltestelle einen mir unbekannten jungen Mann. Ungefähr Mitte 20, geistig behindert, sehr freundlich, trug ein Spielzeugstethoskop um den Hals und einen Spielzeug-Erste-Hilfe-Koffer in der Hand. “Ich arbeite hier!” sagte er zur Begrüßung und zeigte nicht ohne Stolz über die Schulter. “Hallo.” antwortete ich ihm. “Ehrlich? Wo denn?” “Da, beim Roten Kreuz!” und grinste. “Oh, da helfen Sie dann Kranken?” – “Ja!” – “Klasse, find ich gut.
Am Samstag war ich mit meiner Holden mal wieder im Kino, es lief ‘Scoop – Der Knüller’ von Woody Allen—durchaus heiter! Gut, Woody Allen muss man mögen (was bei uns beiden eigentlich nicht zutrifft), der Film hat aber durchaus seine Momente, was allerdings sowohl an der eigentlichen Geschichte als auch am Ensemble liegt. Hugh Jackman, Scarlet Johansson… Der zerknitterte Herr Allen hat zwar auch ein paar ziemlich gute Zeilen (“Ich wurde im hebräischen Glauben erzogen, bin dann aber zum Narzissmus konvertiert”), nervt auf Dauer aber doch sehr durch das typische, bemühte Woody-Allen-Auftreten.
When Hendrik dropped a few bomb shells about the upcoming EVE expansion, I was feeling a bit unsure at first. On the one hand, I love playing with him. (Yes, I know how this sounds.) Plus, EVE consumed quite a bit of my time in the past; actually I dropped out and in a few times by now right from the beginning. On the other hand, my relationship with EVE was always somewhat …abusive; I wanted to like EVE, I actually still do, but she kept hitting me over and over again.
I am one of the “if you want to do it, do it right” school. I try to make it apply to everything. This is the reason why I am kind of ticked off when I hear people say things like “Oh my Gosh!" or “Jeeebus!". Anyways, this “conversation” occured two minutes ago in our office: A (female): “Fudge!” me: “The word is ‘fuck’, not ‘fudge’. Curse properly, woman.”
Well, the decision has been made—it certainly feels weird. The nice (?) side effect is my newly written Wordpress importer for RSS 2.0 and Blogcomments Module support (catchy name). Download it, put it in your WP root folder in /wp-admin/import/ and rename it to rss_2_plus_blogcomments.php. Then run the import from your WP dashboard, that’s all there is to do. Use it, abuse it, spread it, have fun. Which reminds me: why is the original WP 2.
Pure Ironie; ich mag mal wieder über Verschiedenes schreiben, empfinde G-Blog.net, die Blogging-Site, die ich selbst vor Jahren geschrieben habe, aber mittlerweile als zu beschränkt. Ich fürchte, ich kann nicht mal g’scheit Artikel mit Codebeispielen schreiben – die Formatierungsroutinen würden die Beispiele zerhackstückeln. An I18N darf ich nicht mal denken – da kommt mir das kalte Grausen. Plugin-Architektur: Fehlanzeige. (Die schöne Schlussfolgerung ist, dass ich in der Zeit, seit ich das Teil geschrieben habe, eine Menge gelernt hab—sonst würde ich die Mankos nicht erkennen.
My good friend Hendrik gave birth (ewww) to a new site (phew…) called 25peeps.com. Now, here’s the scoop: I have no fucking idea what this site is. He wrote it in just 2 hours. At the moment, my picture is pretty much at the top, which makes this site so much more attractive. ;) It’s sort of a social-networking-meets-pr0n-thumbnail-gallery-site-meets- linkblo g-meets-OMG-I’m-on-the-internet thing. As I’ve said, I don’t know what’s up with it.

Bought an Hakkari Coin at the AH for the great price of 5g 78s. Wanted to resell it for a better price (better for me). When I realized I had put it up for auction for 7s minimum bid and 9s buyout, it was to late. Argh! Well, live and learn.
