A roundup of noteworthy things I’ve played, read, listened to, or watched over the last few weeks.
🎤 Steve Hofstetter: “Secret Optimist” – Hilarious stand-up special. Time well spent.
🎤 Steve Hofstetter: “The Recipe” – Excellent, very personal stand-up comedy special. This one had me lightly tear up once or twice. I love comics that tell personal stories, not just jokes.
📚 Phoebe_Zeitgeist: “Standard Operating Equipment”, Archive of Our Own – A short fan fiction story, placed in the late, great Iain M. Banks' Culture universe. The bar is high; Banks made sure of that with his original works. This one did really well, I think.
Noland Arbaugh, First Human w/ Neuralink Implant Tells His Story – A supercut version of Noland Arbaugh’s Neuralink session where he talks about his experience of being the first person to receive an actual Neuralink brain-computer interface device, which lets him control his iPad and play games, all with his mind. Nolan’s quadriplegic since an accident several years ago. For a moment, ignore who set up that company, how much of a thundercunt their CEO is, etc. Concentrate on listening to Arbaugh talk about his work on & with Neuralink – it’s crazy inspiring and mindboggling. Just awesome technological progress, really.
📚 Iain M. Banks: “Inversions” – I’ve read this novel many years ago, and didn’t remember much about it. I’m happy to report it’s still very good.
The Race to Harness Quantum Computing’s Mind-Bending Power | The Future With Hannah Fry, YouTube – Super interesting look at what’s going on in quantum computing, for normal’ish people. Things are gonna get real wild soon, I think. So far I liked the entire “The Future With Hannah Fry” series on YT.
John Oliver Is Still Working Through the Rage, YouTube – Aren’t we all? Good man.
